RE: [thelionscall] Joy in Narnia

I don't often feel that sensation with other books, outside of Lewis, and
sometimes with Tolkien. There are many good books in the world, and I enjoy
them for the escape, and for what I learn from them, but there are few whose
worlds I would choose to linger in in the same way...not that I'd want to
live in Middle Earth, really, but there is something fierce and wonderful
about it. But no other storybook characters have I longed to meet as I
would Aslan. Though again, some characters in LOTR come close to that
believability. But, for example, I love the book "Ella Enchanted," but the
characters are just that, characters, not people I would wish to meet,
because they just don't hit me as people outside the covers of the
book...does that make sense?

What does let me know that I am reading something worthwhile is often not so
much joy as sorrow. If I mourn for a character, I know the book has touched
me.

[thelionscall] The real Lucy Pevensie

For those that are interested, there’s an article online from the London Telegraph that interviews the woman who most probably inspired Lewis for the character of Lucy in the Narnia books.  You can find it here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/12/11/narnia11.xml

Blessings,
