Re: [thelionscall] Hi! I'm New :)

Hmm... I don't know about that, the Pevensies seemed grown up in LB, I figured that they were all around adulthood at that point...
Of course, I don't have any solid evidence.

Re: [thelionscall] Hi! I'm New :)

I finished reading The Horse and his boy last night. And Edmund and the Queens have parts in it but it is never said how old they are now although it does sound as if they are at least late teens if not early 20s.

I wish I had found these books many years ago. I knew of them but always wrote them off as nonsense or as lame Christian books (like so many others back then).

44 is much too old to be starting to read these books !

True. But I don't think four years (minimum amount of time they'll be able to finish two seperate movies) passed in our world between SC and LB. Correct me if I'm wrong. 'fraid I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

Although, remember that in LB, the children actually ARE older.  The span of time to let them grow a bit would actually make it more true to the books.  In PC and VDT, and for Eustace, Silver Chair, the kids are still close to the same age as in LWW, give or take a year or two.  So theoretically they could go ahead filming in the original published order (an idea I applaud!) and the time for growing children could work in their favor

So hopefully *fingers crossed* they'll do the Horse & His Boy next??? I'm loving this book!!

[thelionscall] Chronicles Reading Order.

In my opinion, I think the books are best read in the original order.
LWW being the first. It is a little more understandable that way. But
if you think it best to read in in the new order, MN being first then
by almeans read it that way, everyone is entitled to their own
opinion. Personaly though I understood everything better in the old
order. and happly thanks to my Uncle I now own one of the original
publishings for the chronicles.

Also Dan thank you for the possible upcoming movie information. I
will keep my eyes open and money saved waiting for it. I checked out
Narniaweb.com information and found it all very interesting.

Hello Michelle,

There is a lot of good information that can be gathered from narniaweb.com, especially about the movies.  I also teach at a course on C.S. Lewis’s literature at a college here in Rhode Island.

The reason the publisher changed the order of the books remains a bit of a mystery.  It is possible that the urging of Lewis’s stepson, Doug Gresham, was the sole reason behind the change.  The justification used to change the order came from Lewis’s own words in at least one letter he wrote to a young fan.  Lewis responded to a young person who asked if the Chronicles of Narnia could be read chronologically.  Lewis’s response was that he thought reading the books in a chronological order of the story would be a very good way to read the Chronicles.  Twenty-some-odd years after Lewis’s death, the publication order was changed to the new order, although not perfectly chronological, it was the best they could do without splitting up books.

There are many people, including the president of the C.S. Lewis Foundation, who like the original published order much better.

Blessings,

Wow, what a great job!!! I think I might have to read the books in the original order after I've read them Chronologically  Winky

Not really, since Harry Potter and LOTR are written in chronological order.  The Chronicles of Narnia are not.  The original order is the order in which they were published, which is slightly different from the order in which they were written.  They were later reorganized to be in the order in which they stories actually take place, which is different from either of the other two orders.  This was based on a letter from Lewis to a little boy who got in an argument with his mother about which order to read the books in.  The boy though he should read them chronologically and Lewis agreed that that was fine.  The arguement is whether Lewis was just being friendly to the little boy, whether he cared at all, or whether he really wanted them read chronologically.  The debate continues to this day.

Sorry! *confuzzled* boy?!
