Re: [thelionscall] Aslan (was birthday party)
IMHO, Aslan in the Chronicles of Narnia is perhaps one of the best
symbols of Christ there is in literature. :) The way how he is the
whole center of the Narnian universe, the keeper and sustainer of life,
the ultimate source of love and courage - everything the children or
anyone else accomplished, was because of their unwavering faith in
Aslan. (This comes across much stronger in books than in the movie,
BTW.)
An excellent reminder of our dependance in our Lord :)
Unlike Tom, I found it a very Biblical image of Christ's character how
Aslan defeated the White Witch and was the leader of the troops :)
Didn't Jesus defeat all powers of Darkness when He died and rose again?
:)
And He IS called the Lord of Hosts? We,a s His followers, are called to
be part in His great army, but we only are victorious as long as we
stick to His commands :)
While Aslan is a wonderful image of Jesus, at the same time, he is also
a literary figure that I would not show exactly the same honor as the
Lord Himself. It is a beautiful picture - a hidden one to some, an
obvious to many ... but I would not call it blasphemy even though
MAcDonalds offered those miniature Aslans as part of their Happy meals,
I just thought it a bit silly...
