RE: [thelionscall] Re: [narnia] Hi! I'm New :)
Hello Michelle,
There is a lot of good information that can be gathered from narniaweb.com, especially about the movies. I also teach at a course on C.S. Lewis’s literature at a college here in Rhode Island.
The reason the publisher changed the order of the books remains a bit of a mystery. It is possible that the urging of Lewis’s stepson, Doug Gresham, was the sole reason behind the change. The justification used to change the order came from Lewis’s own words in at least one letter he wrote to a young fan. Lewis responded to a young person who asked if the Chronicles of Narnia could be read chronologically. Lewis’s response was that he thought reading the books in a chronological order of the story would be a very good way to read the Chronicles. Twenty-some-odd years after Lewis’s death, the publication order was changed to the new order, although not perfectly chronological, it was the best they could do without splitting up books.
There are many people, including the president of the C.S. Lewis Foundation, who like the original published order much better.
Blessings,

Hi Dan,
Thanks for that! Much appreciated :) Where do you get all this information from???? Did you get it from narniaweb?? I haven't actually read all of the books yet. Still only on the Horse and His Boy at the moment. Currently at the point where they are running away. I'm loving it!
Why did they change the order?! Bit bizarre, thats like changing LOTR's or Harry Potter!! Very strange!!!
