It is possible that the spam messages had viruses hidden in them. The attachment included with each one likely was one, but I was too wise to open it. Any imbedded viruses would not effect me, because I use web-based email, and the virus exploit using images to download malicious software does not affect me either because I don't use Explorer (I use Firefox) and I updated Windows as soon as the fix came out anyways.
