The four children spend many years, probaby 20 or so, in Narnia, but when they left, only seconds had gone by.  When they comment in the next book about how much has changed in a year, they mean the year since they were last in Narnia.

I really am going to have to read all the books quite quickly to understand what you're all talking about!!!
